I'd seen a work done with a similar texture and color scheme and wanted to try it out myself. I really like getting the rich background texture while still maintaining a clear and consistent color. Getting sharp edges is always difficult with oil pastel -- the sharp edges of the animals were achieved by placing paper cutouts down before blocking in the color around them.
